HE IS RISEN!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

NOW it's finished! Spiderweb quilt top *Updated at the end

Spiderweb quilt with string border
NOW it is finished.  I decided that the quilt from the last post, needed another border to finish it.  Here it is!  I made the string border and attached it and mitered the corners last night.  I think I'm going to enter this quilt top in the Quilting Gallery's Scrappy Quilt contest.  Now to see if it can be quilted in time to present it to a special soldier (see last post) for Quilts of Valor.  Thanks to Marilyn for the idea to add Sawtooth stars to the sashing and cornerstones.  Our soldiers are real 'STARS' themselves.  Thanks soldiers for all that you do to keep us free!

mitered border and sawtooth stars around block
This photo shows a close-up of the mitered border and the sawtooth stars for the cornerstones.  I cut out 196 tiny squares to add to the sashing strips to turn the cornerstones into sawtooth stars.  I like mitered borders, and thought that they would look best with the way the stars in the blocks go together.  The blocks look 'mitered', but, they aren't.

For the people who pray, please pray for the people of Grape Creek, TX.  My best friend and her family, plus her sister's family have wild fires burning near their homes.  If the winds change, they may have to evacuate.  There are wind gusts up to 45mph and only 12% humidity, and they are several inches behind in rain for the year.   Thanks for the prayers.

Spiderweb quilt top - Is it finished???

Spiderweb with sashing and cornerstones
More work on the Spiderweb quilt from Bonnie Hunter's blog that I showed before in this post .  This quilt is for Quilts of Valor .  I'm hoping that it can get finished in time for me to present it to a very special soldier that is winging his way home as we speak.  I want to present it to him in May.  Bonnie Hunter puts the blocks together to make a spiderweb, but, I really wanted the 'star' to show up, since it is for a soldier.  A friend thought I should add the sawtooth stars for the cornerstones.  I used the last of the green from the bolt, so, I couldn't use it for the sashing. We couldn't find a blue we liked, so, we chose the brown for the sashing, and gold for the stars.  Lots of 'gold stars' for this soldier.  Now my question for all of you, is this quilt top finished?????  I thought it would be finished, but, I wonder if I should add a small string border to it?  I have lots of 'strings' but, I don't know if I have any of the same ones used in the spiderwebs.  What do you think?

I WON! and other things, including Texas (pt 2)

My Quilted Jacket
Lots of things to chat about today.  First, I won the Weekly Themed Quilt Contest at Quilting Gallery.  Thanks Michele and Thanks to The Fat Quarter Shop for the prize of a $25 gift certificate.  I will have fun using this gift certificate.  Oh decisions, decisions.

Second, and this really should have been first:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTOPHER!  My oldest son is 21 years old today!  He is off at college, so I can't celebrate with him, but, we celebrated in Texas over Spring Break.

While in Texas, we visited the Dublin Dr. Pepper Bottling Plant in Dublin, TX.  This is the oldest Dr. Pepper Bottling plant.  It is also the only Dr. Pepper plant that used the original formula with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar instead of artificial sweeteners.  I quit drinking Dr. Pepper years ago because it was 'too sweet'.  Well, I drank Dublin Dr. Pepper, and, it is so smooth!  Just the correct amount of everything.  My son, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTOPHER! , has had Dublin Dr. Pepper, and we have made the cake and icing (shown in the picture).  It was really good.  So good, in fact, that that is why we went out of our way to stop by and get more Dr. Pepper and cake/icing mix.  We got enough to give as gifts, too. Unless you are in the Dublin area, you can only get these products online.  Well worth it.

Lastly, a special Thank you to all of you who voted for my jacket last weekend.  I wore it Saturday when I was at a local thrift store, and another quilter stopped me and asked how to make it.  I gave her a tutorial right there in the shop.  It's so much fun to meet other quilters and share our hobby.  Quilter's are great!  Thanks again everyone!
